El 7 de Febrero se llevó a cabo en Roma el Congreso Electivo de la Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS) donde se confirmaron otra vez para 4 años más el Presidente Sabatino Aracu (Italia) y la 1era Vicepresidenta Valerie Leftwich (Australia).
El Presidente Aracu obtuvo 125 votos contra los 48 del adversario Carlos Orlando Ferreira Pinzón (Colombia), Vicepresidente FIRS. El congreso, transmitido por la primera vez en live straming, ha sido caracterizado por el flair-play y la gana de trabajar juntos para que los Roller Sports puedan ser parte integrante de los Juegos Olímpicos.
"El Presidente Aracu - declaró Ferreira - sabe que estaré a su lado también en los próximos 4 años, luchando junto con él para entrar en los Juegos Olímpicos y por todo lo que se refiere a ideas e iniciativas para el desarrollo de los Roller Sports"
En el Salone d'Onore del CONI, el Presidente del Comité Olímpico Nacional Italiano, Petrucci y el Miembro COI, Pescante dieron la bienvenida a los Delegados procedentes de todo el mundo, garantizando su total apoyo a la candidatura olímpica de los Roller Sports.
"Este Congresso es una piedra miliar para FIRS- declaró el Presidente Aracu- estamos listos a dejar una aptitud amatorial para alcazar el objetivo olímpico y hacer frente a todos los desafíos de manera profesional. Necesitamos el empeño de todos para realizar nuestro sueño".

On February 7th, we will meet here in Rome to decide who will lead the FIRS in one of the most important period of roller skating: on October 2009 the next Olympic future of our beloved sport will be determined. I believe that it is fundamental to share with all of you the items that will be dealt during the Congress. This is the reason why I want to broadcast all the Congress in live streaming: all of you will have the chance to be virtually here together with us.
